Apple’s Information Alley: 1994 May 1st to 1997 March 24th

Information Alley was a bimonthly (twice a month) the electronic newsmagazine published by Apple’s Support Information Services. The goal of the Information Alley was to help Apple computer users get full use of their Apple computers, peripherals, and software. The articles chosen for the Information Alley came from many sources, both from inside Apple Computer and from our customers and users. Sources include Apple’s Technical Information Library, Apple Assistance Center, New Technology Group, World Wide Product Technical Support, Apple Users Groups, and other technical groups and organizations.

NOTE: see my Macintosh Reference Documentation post for other information sources.

About

I find Information Alley to be a very useful of information about Apple products that were launched before Apple’s Website before it was first cached. I was able to find most of these Issues on Apple’s Service Source CDs, and I have also uploaded the Volume 1 and Volume 2 issues to the Internet Archive.

1996 March 25th daily publication begins

Starting March 25th Information Alley stopped being a formal newsmagazine and became a daily (weekdays) email that mainly contained copies of recent Apple Technical Information Library articles. I was lucky to find copies of these email publications from March 25th 1996 to March 24th 1997 on the Way Back Machine’s cached version of the JHMI Mac User Group’s site.

Starting Monday March 25th, Information Alley will become a daily publication! That’s right, you’ll be getting late breaking news from Apple every weekday. Instead of providing you with a publication every two weeks, we are going to provide you with information Monday through Friday. In order to make the transition to a daily publication, we are no longer going to publish the Information Alley in an Acrobat format. We are moving to a completely e–mail–based publication. Being a daily publication will allow you to keep current on Apple products and technologies with greater ease than ever before.

Information Ally Volume 2 Issue 21, March 15 1996

Daily: 1996 March, April, and May

Daily: 1996 June, July, August

Daily: 1996 September, October, November

Daily: 1996 December to 1997 March 24th

Unfortunately March 1997 was the last month that the JHMI Mac User Group created an HTML version of the daily email, and I’ve been unable to find another source. I did find a few posts on Apple’s website that were links to Technical Information Library articles, with the last cached version on November 1999, after that I wonder if it was replaced by Apple’s eNews newsletter: 2000, 2001, 2002.
